National Food Production Action Plan 2012-2015
The goal for the agricultural sector of the government of Trinidad and Tobago is to create a nation with food security. To this end, the Ministry of Agriculture has developed an action plan for the period 2012-2015 which focuses on achieving increased food security for the nation. The plan aligns resources with national priorities and aims to create a platform for the government and the private sector to generate alliances to mobilize and utilize marine and land, human and technological resources and labor resources; allowing shareholders to participate in the development of the sector with the potential to extend national social and economic development. This reduces the import bill; reducing inflation; sustainable and long term job creation; and contribute to the diversification of the economy.
To carry out the aforementioned, the Plan focuses on strategic products which are established in order to contribute to reaching food security in Trinidad and Tobago. This is done in order to achieve a greater degree of self-sufficiency in the long-term (5 years).
